Once upon a time there was a girl who had an iPod. As much as she hated Apple products she came to love this iPod. Then
Then one day this girl's friend, who was on the student events committee... thing, told her that she should go to the masquerade party the school was holding. The girl had little interest in it though. That was, she wasn't interested in it until she heard that the party had a mask contest, with the owner of the best mask winning an iPod!
The girl was elated. She was artistic, and she knew that there wouldn't be too many people (not too many people ever went to these events) so there wouldn't be too much competition. She had a genuine chance shot at this. The event was on Saturday around 8 pm, and she finally began to make her mask around 11 pm on Friday, along with some of her friends, who had a night to kill. They stayed up making their masks, sleeping for only a few hours before continuing.
In the end, the girl basically made two masks, completely from scratch (they were made of paper mache, spray paint, beads, ribbon, cardboard, and some sparkly stickers). Hers was the moon...
And her ex's was the sun...
So now she had twice the chance of winning, and now the two masks complemented eachother so beautifully.
The time of the masquerade arrived, and the friends grabbed their masks and headed out. The masquerade was... pretty dull (though the food was pretty amazing) and finally the contest began. There were three finalists, and both of the girl's masks were finalists! She had it in the bag, there was no way she could lose this.
That is, until the DJ decided that the winner would be chosen by the crowd via shouting. He had a little device that calculated decibels, so it seemed fair enough. And it would have been if the crowd (which was a total of 30 people) hadn't consisted of 20 of the third finalist's friends. So in the end, the girl lost to this--
And that's why I'm now contest-jaded. This happened in... November(?), but I was so pissed/miserable about the whole event, I didn't really want to relive the events so soon after.
(Sorry for slacking on the posting end, I'm trying to get back in the swing of things.)

Your masks = so much more superior. I am le sorry.
